Forrest Sawyer presents the story of the 1996 Mt. Everest climbing season, which ended in disaster and death for many of the climbers. This 1998 news magazine concentrates on the IMAX film crew that was filming a documentary of Mt. Everest at the same time a storm hit high up on Mt. Everest on May 10, 1996, stranding many climbers in the Death Zone. Some climbers did not make it down alive. Res...

At the 20:22 mark of my video recording from local TV news coverage of the 9/11 attack, in an on-street interview with an ABM Industries employee, he says that he was in B tower in the basement when "the elevator blew up." What caused that explosion? One theory is that the elevators in the World Trade Center were lined with explosives that someone detonated to knock down the skyscrapers. aneta....
ABC NIGHTLINE Investigation (20 June 1991) The October Surprise

This ABC Nightline episode deals with how William Casey, working for the Reagan presidential campaign, arranged for arms sales to Iran in return for Iran delaying the release of American hostages held prisoner in Tehran until after the 1980 presidential election. This tale of treasonous conduct by supporters of Reagan is pretty much dead history now, of no concern to most Americans. Americans w...

This 20 December 1990 episode of the ABC news magazine “PrimeTime Live” is not just the best network news coverage of the Pan Am Lockerbie bombing. This complete episode is a time capsule, showing how television networks used to do a great job covering the news, before corporate fascists like the Disney Company turned reporters into presstitutes, zombies with sparkling white teeth. On September 11, 2001, I made VHS recordings of television newscasts of the 9/11 attack, transmitted by Time Warner Cable of New York. I was switching channels while watching the reports. This video covers the time frame 9:51 AM to 11:54 AM, originally recorded at the SP VHS speed. I copied the VHS recording to a DVD-R and have now uploaded the NTSC DVD source data to UA-cam. Peach Weathers. Wow. She was going to get her husband off that mountain no matter what. Amazing that Colonel Madan agreed, considering the dangers. Peach is a hero in her own right; had she not organized an otherwise impossible rescue, her husband probably wouldn't be here. Colonel Madan is a damn superhero. (Their heroism also saved another climber, who was taken off the mountain with Beck.)

As a rescuer myself... I hope Rob Hall's wife realizes how good man he was. She probably knows better than me but... I just have to say it. As someone who almost lost his life trying to save another person, I almost gave up on that person to save myself. Rob didn't abandon people and that costed his life... That was a good man that we lost! As a practitioner of extreme activities one of the first lessons I got was Humility! People should be true/honest with themselves and with others! Be aware of their flaws and limits... And take Beck's example! If you have a difficulty or a limit, don't hide it or cover it! Be frontal and honest to others!!! That's why he's still alive and not frozen on the face of Everest! And in this Everest thing.... Seems people are there more for fame and business than anything else. That is NO place for mindsets like that! And their selfishness/egos can and WILL cost lives

I still don't understand why they don't just scatter the mountain with oxygen bottles over the time leading up to the summit push.. I mean they might as well be scuba diving with limited air they should have safety posts throughout the climb with set up emergency oxygen bottles

Jon Krakauer is a good writer but “Into Thin Air” has it’s inaccuracies. Michael Tracy (UA-cam) has done a video that takes a deep dive into the fact that Jon kept changing his story. It’s worth looking into.

I did see his video. I think Michael Tracey has an unhealthy obsession of hating John Krakauer. His videos are extremely biased. Neil Beidleman is on a millhouse podcast basically saying the same thing as JK.

Rob stayed too long. Scott had helped someone down the mountain the day before and was too tired to go on. Anatoli took off to climb up and down, leaving them on the mountain. Too much ambition, not enuf honesty with themselves.

I always wonder why these groups do not carry up extra O2 tanks, during their practice runs, so if someone needs it they will have a store of them available and not need to rely on others to bring it up the mountain.

Anatoli didn't "rush" down the summit like many who believe Krakauers account claim. Anatoli was one of the first to summit after he, neil and ang dorjee fixed the ropes and he stayed for 2-3 hours helping the clients from BOTH teams to summit. Anatoli only started to descend at 3.30pm. Neil, Mike Groom and the surviving clients who summited corroborate Anatolis claim. Krakauer was one of the earliest clients to summit and he started to descend immediately thereafter. That is why he wasnt part of the group with Neil and Mike which got lost in the storm near camp 4. Krakauer had no clue what took place after he descended and what Anatoli did and didn't do as Krakauer describes and places blames in his book. Krakauer had descended while Anatoli was still helping clients to summit. Krakauers money grabbing book had been widely discredited by the other surviving members of that tragedy.

If that rotten and useless socialite Sandy Pittman hadnt been on that climb, they all would have avoided the storm and reached the lower camps hours before the storm hit. Anatoli, Neil and Ang Dorjee spent (wasted) precious 2-3 hours fixing the ropes at the balcony and hillarys step which was supposed to have been fixed earlier in the day by Ang Dorjee (robs head sherpa) and Lopsang (scotts head sherpa) as planned. Lopsang who was carrying the extra ropes was exhausted and slowed down massively due to carrying Pittmans unneccesary heavy loads of bags. Lopsang also had to short rope (i.e. dragging) Sandy Pittman UP the mountain instead of fixing the ropes with Ang Dorjee. Other climbers stood there waiting in the deathzone wasting their precious supplemental oxygen while waiting for the ropes to be fixed. If the ropes had been fixed earlier in the day as planned, they ALL would have missed the storm by 2-3 hours and none of them would have ran out of supplemental oxygen.

What a fraud on herself, this Sandy lady having a sherpa "short rope" or pull her up to the summit. So she can go brag that she climbed Everest. What a joike! That is not climbing Everest that is getting pulled by someone up Everest. I bet she paid him a lot is the reason he did not show up for his very important job which was to attach ropes for the paying clients.

"Green boots" was one of the three Indo-Tibetan Border Police who passed away on the same day. They climbed from the north face and died at northeast ridge (according to wiki). The picture at your timestamp are most likely the Taiwanese team who climbed from the south face like Halls and Fischer's teams.
